Japanese Demand for Scrap Steel Thin in January

Platts reported that, despite an uptick in the Japanese economy, demand for molybdenum-containing stainless steel scrap was weak through January.

As quoted in the market report:

SUS316 stainless scrap containing 16-18% chrome, 10-14% nickel and 2-3% molybdenum traded at around Yen 190 ($2.08)/kg on a delivered basis in January, stable from December, said sources at stainless steelmakers and scrap brokers in Japan.
